A history of achievement
The Australia-Taiwan Business Council (ATBC) was set up in 1983 by Sir Charles Court, a former Premier of Western Australia, and a group of senior business people with interests in Taiwan. Over the years, it played a strong role in promoting the expansion of business between Australia and Taiwan.

The ATBC is not just another bi-lateral business association. In the absence of diplomatic relations between Australia and Taiwan, the ATBC is a bridge and a channel of communication between the two countries.

Without the ATBC, the reforms in Australia-Taiwan relations and the resulting step-function increases in Australian exports with Taiwan would not have occurred until much later.

Besides working to improve the infrastructure for Australia-Taiwan commerce, the ATBC also does its best to promote the interests of individual members. It can do this effectively because of the outstanding access and influence which its office holders enjoy in Taiwan and because its Taiwan counterpart, the Republic of China-Australia Business Council (ROCABC), can deploy substantial resources for goals which the two Councils share.

The Chairman of the ATBC is Mr Ross Maddock. In Taiwan, on behalf of members of the ATBC, he regularly calls on the senior economic ministers and the captains of industry.

In Australia, the Chairman has regular access to ministers, with whom he frequently discusses the interests of the ATBC and its members.
